Latter-Day?

When Mitt Romney ran for the Senate in Massachusetts against Ted Kennedy, and when he ran for and won the Governorship of that state, then he positioned himself as the most liberal Republican possible.

Especially, he made a point of insisting that he was no more against abortion because he was a Mormon than Kennedy was against it because he was Catholic. But that had all changed, officially, by the time that he had his eye on the Presidency.

And now, is a United States Senator for Utah. Proportionally more Republican than any other religious group including white Evangelicals, the Mormons have never liked Donald Trump.

They might think that he is better than the alternative. But they would be more than open to a better alternative. Can you see where this is going?

Romney would not win, of course. But might he take just enough Electoral College votes in the Mountain West to deny Trump a second term? That is a long shot, but do not rule it out.
