Priti Much Doomed

Priti Patel is on the way out, because the Right is the embarrassing relative that the Government cannot allow anyone else to meet. Boris Johnson knows that he owes his majority to people and places that had voted for Jeremy Corbyn in 2017, and which would have done so again if Corbyn had held his nerve on Brexit.

So Johnson is openly implementing Corbyn's and John McDonnell's programme of massively extended central government involvement in the economy, both in a directive role and as a direct participant. This is pure opportunism on Johnson's part, but we who are going to be benefiting from it are not going to be complaining about that.

We have not, however, exchanged one one-party state for another. Ours is the 2020 Vision of a new political party, a new think tank, a new weekly newspaper, a new monthly cultural review, a new quarterly academic journal, and so much else besides. I will be standing for Parliament again here at North West Durham next time, so please give generously. In any event, please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
