The United States Senate has been casually informed of Britain's intention to replace Trident with, of course, more American nuclear warheads. But no one in Britain has been told anything at all. Meanwhile, for the want of a tiny fraction of the ever-escalating cost, much of our country sinks beneath the floodwaters. Some defence, this.
Ours is the 2020 Vision of a new political party, a new think tank, a new weekly newspaper, a new monthly cultural review, a new quarterly academic journal, and so much else besides.
