Not The Red Benches

"Every tart in London was getting in," said Princess Margaret of why Debutantes' Balls were discontinued. No fewer than 39 people are currently being considered for seats in the House of Lords.

28 of them have been nominated by Boris Johnson, but the Labour total is in single figures. Yet this was Jeremy Corbyn's last chance to get the Labour and Independent Left into Parliament at all before Keir Starmer took over. Two dozen names spring to mind, still fewer than Johnson is planning to ennoble. What a pity. What a shame.

By the way, George Galloway once promised live on air to take a peerage if I did. I may yet him hold him to that. In the meantime, though, I will be standing for Parliament again here at North West Durham next time, so please give generously. In any event, please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
