Annabel's Alternative

No wonder that the Scottish Tories are not opposed to AV. Like the Tories in many other places geographically or culturally far from London, the ones who stay in Scotland, unlike Michael Gove or Liam Fox, are very much like the Australian National Party, which is provincial, rural, protectionist, church-based, conservative, mind-our-own-business, pro-Commonwealth, and ardently monarchist.

Whereas the Westminster Village faction that controls the Conservative Party centrally is like the Australian Liberal Party, which is metropolitan, urban, capitalist, secular, libertarian, make-the-world-anew, pro-American, and at least fifty per cent anti-monarchist.

AV enables them to exist as distinct parties, just as it gives the balance of power to figures such as Tony Windsor and Bob Katter, with agenda of big government to regenerate rural Australia, and with none of your rubbish about climate change hysteria, or abolishing the monarchy, or departing from the traditional definition of marriage, or importing a new working class in order to undercut the old one.

Roll on AV in Britain.
