Collective Shame

It gives me no pleasure to agree with Denis MacShane. But he was right on last night's Newsnight. The English Collective of Prostitutes has some sort of BBC franchise. "We do it by choice"? "We enjoy it"? Then you are filthy whores, as bad as your evil punters. Away with them. And away with you. Meanwhile, when will the English Collective of Smack Dealers be heard all over the BBC?

  1. "Then you are filthy whores, as bad as your evil punters. Away with them."

Which may be true, but do remember they may be going into the kingdom of heaven before you or I are.

  2. At least they don't have the temerity to want to be bishops.

  3. How do you know? And do you mean the filthy whores, the evil punters, or both?

  4. My word, you're right. It might be a lot worse than we thought.

In the meantime, as Anonymous hints, none of this means that sex workers are to be condemned out of hand. There is after all, Britain's classical Christian heritage to consider.

  5. Love the sinner, hate the sin. The sin of the whore and the sin of the punter equally.

  6. So where's the love in "filthy whores, away with you"? It seems a little elusive.

  7. I look forward to prisons being full of equal numbers of whores and their punters.
Alas its always been the case that its the "Rich wot gets the pleasure, its the poor wot gets the blame".
Perhaps anyone using a whore should be disqualified from Parliament. That should reduce the Expenses Bill.

No he was nt. He hilariously made a total a**e of himself as usual-trading in bogus statistics

-As if 25,000 "traffiked" women per year have come to these shores in the back of lorries or something.

Its all part of a wider, dishonest campaign that he, his partner

and Harriet Harman are waging to get prostitution completely outlawed in this country by stealth.

Its also conveniently drawing a smokescreen over the fact that he and his party have encouraged the same women to come here from Europe quite legally to keep wages down in legal service jobs like restaurants and cleaning.

"Then you are filthy whores, as bad as your evil punters. Away with them."

What would Jesus have said, David?

And if some woman wants to pay for sex with me do you think Harridan Harperson should make a criminal out of her?
(Quite looking forward to "The Exile'"s take on this.)

  9. Jesus would have told them to go and sin no more. In fact, He does tell them that.

Forget stealth. Make it a criminal offence for any person aged 18 or over to buy or sell sex of whatever kind, with exactly equal sentencing of both sexes and of both sides of the transaction.

  10. I'm not saying I'm Jesus or anything, but when I meet a client, I meet him soul to soul. I do my utmost to make sure he benefits from the God given, paregoric powers that I, as a gentlewoman, possess.
Mr. Lindsay, I think you have never experienced real love. I am truly sorry for you.
The exchange of money between the prostitute and client does not reduce it to an exploitative act. The money serves two purposes: it defines the parametres of this relationship, necessarily characterised by mutual trust and respect.
And, it is a way of saying 'thank you'.
As a Christian, Mr. Lindsay, you should know this - that you can show love, under ANY circumstances. If you have it in you.
You are still young; I hope you grow wiser, and don't have children before you wake up.
    With respect,
    Your friend in Brussels
