Unmerited

When Boris Met Dave managed to suggest that Toby Young had been to any old London comp, and was some sort of horny-handed son of the toil. In fact, William Ellis was, and is, a key Lenin High School befitting the son of the peer so influential that he invented the word "meritocracy". But he thought that he was being satirical when he depicted a society in which those with wealth and paper qualifications determined "merit" on the basis of wealth and paper qualifications. His targets, however, took him entirely at face value. And have been doing so ever since.
