Even At That?

Every Iowan watching this evening's six o'clock news will be treated to an extended campaign advertisement in which Hillary Clinton, in an unspoken contrast to Barack Obama, sets herself out as "ready" to be President from day one.

Yer what?!?

I carry no candle for Obama, who is pretty and ... well, that's pretty much it. But Clinton is nothing except the old (ghastly, absurdly overrated) President's wife.

And is it just too uncharitable to ask how good she must be even at that, all things considered?

  1. Yes it is. But isn't it fun all the same?

I love the way that the Clinton crowd depicts Obama as "unqualified". Yes he is. But what do they think that she is?

  2. If ever there were a case for constitutional monarchy, it is that it detaches dynastic instinct from direct political power. Thank God that we could never end up with Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton...

  4. Yes, because they don't have their fingers on nuclear buttons.

At least the monarchy doesn't have the effrontery to pretend to be anything else. And its existence ensures that certain powers cannot be exercised by anyone else, since they cannot in practice be exercised by anyone at all.

Would you rather that they were? If so, why? And by whom, exactly?
