The McCanns Are Guilty Of This, At Least
I know what the McCanns are indisputably guilty of: leaving their three tiny children alone in an hotel room and heading off for a restaurant. If they had been nurses, then the media would have been vastly less sympathetic. If they had been a GP's receptionist and an ambulance driver, then their case would have been ignored completely. If they had been a hospital cleaner and a hospital porter, then they would have been torn apart. But they are doctors. So that's all right, then. Isn't it?

David, they have received massive criticism in the media for this. People are also very sorry for them because they have lost her daughter, and so that has been the dominant note in the coverage, but there has been a vast amount of exactly the kind of criticism you imply they haven't had.
ReplyDeleteOnly in the broadsheet press. The papers that they would actually read, oddly enough. But relatively few other people do.
ReplyDeleteNo, there's been lots of talk along these lines. See for example this, from as long ago as June. It's not just the broadsheets - all the papers, and plenty of broadcasters, have carried criticism of this kind.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit it - the last commenter appears to be right. Initially, I agreed with David, but it appears as if he was wrong.
