A Double Farewell
Farewell, then, Shotley Bridge Hospital. Anyone doubting that Hilary Armstrong was planning to retire, here at last is conclusive proof. Of course, she won't actually announce it until so late that the National Executive Committee can parachute in some London clone. But the decision has clearly been made. Hilary could not retire - nay, she could not die - until her life's work, the destruction of Shotley Bridge Hospital, was complete. And now, it very soon will be.

Any tips as to a succesor?
ReplyDeleteThere is a rumour, but I don't believe it, because it's someone almost local and who would actually be good. The idea seems to be to get this person out of a loyal (if, it must be said, unrewarded) Brownite's CLP, since they, er, don't get on...
ReplyDeleteBut it'll be an imposed London candidate, probably an ex-MP who couldn't cut it down there. Of course. See what Labour really thinks of the North East. Of course.
In any case, let this be the Election (if it happens) when those whose votes the One Party, in its various guises, treats as feudal tribute finally stage a long-overdue Peasants' Revolt.
