I once ate an unspecified part of an ostrich, and I shall never eat ostrich again. It was horrible. But Mrs Birdybum has it within her power to prove her detractors wrong by ensuring that the Channel Four Television Corporation passed into the right hands.
Over at Education, Jeffrey Archer used to call Nadhim Zahawi "Lemon Kurd" when Zahawi was his aide and running his London Mayoral campaign. Zahawi has since claimed parliamentary expenses to heat his stables. But it is in the running of state schools that the Liberal Establishment in academia and the media meets the right-wing Labour machine in local government.
From the governing bodies and senior staff of schools, to those of Channel 4 and its stablemates, we on the Left ought to be bypassing the weedy brains of the Liberal Establishment and the brainless brawn of the municipal Labour Right, in order to secure the representation that had never been afforded by those who had presumed to speak for our people, but never to our people.
Yes, that would indeed involve doing deals with the Conservatives. We could not possibly get less out of them than we had ever managed to get out of the Keir Starmers of the world.
Something similar is true of orthodox Catholics. As it is, are we on Thought for the Day, or The Moral Maze, or anything? Although often academically excellent, what do Catholic schools do for the Church, or for the Faith? The Catholic Church and the Church of England between them need to ask themselves what social or cultural effect their much-prized networks of schools have had on this, the most secular society and culture ever to have come into existence voluntarily.
From the governing bodies and senior staff of schools, to those of Channel 4 and its stablemates, we need David Lindsay.
