With huge implications for the teaching of History at every level and for its articulation in the media, History Departments as we have known them are to be expunged from British universities.
At least where this country's own past was concerned, a State-determined version is to be taught by people who engaged in little or no research, since there was deemed to be none to be done.
As to who will determine the content of that syllabus, that is expected to be glorified freelance journalists, often based in the United States.
