Boris Johnson's riposte to Keir Starmer was unanswerable. If the Government put up taxes, then it would only be implementing the last Labour manifesto. But it is Johnson's own supporters who need to give that a moment to sink in.
Like Tony Blair before him, Starmer has to define himself against the places that had voted solidly Labour before he had become the Messianic Leader. But Blair had plenty of those from which to choose.
After the last General Election, Starmer has only London, which he not only represents as an MP but genuinely loves, whereas no one ever accused Blair of loving the Durham coalfield.
And Liverpool. So the target has to be Liverpool. Expect that target to be hit over, and over, and over again. The thing about Scousers, though, is that they hit back.
