Politically Unpalatable

And so, yet another aspect of the Coalition's Blairite continuity programme falls apart.

"Charities, social enterprises, and co-operatives"? As if! Every single contract would mysteriously have been awarded to voracious multinational corporations that happened to make huge donations to the Conservative Party, just as they used to bankroll New Labour's offices, favourite think tanks (which dutifully advocated more and more of these arrangements) and other pet projects.

In any case, for all the importance of charities, social enterprises, and co-operatives, who wants the present publicly owned services to be run by them? Even they themselves, heavily dependent on those services and on other forms of public spending, do not want that. And nor does anyone else. Anyone at all. Evidently.
