Of course anyone whose conviction has been overturned ought to be entitled to compensation. But the situation would hardly, if ever, arise if we insisted that convictions had to be beyond reasonable doubt as historically defined.
And as with those rightly demonstrating against the withdrawal of DLA as if its recipients had caused the problem, what good is this money going to be while Osborne is in charge of the economy?
