Here's a thought: let's return to a sensible number of universities, with a sensible number of people at them. No, that does not necessarily mean "close the new ones". No one, no one at all, would have any room to be smug if this were to be done properly. But then, that's why it never will be, isn't it? I think we can name the institutions that will most definitely not be delivering their courses through FE colleges the length and breadth of the land. Nor would David Willetts dream of suggesting for one moment that they should.
