Today would have been the one hundredth birthday of Mrs Mary Whitehouse, of whom it is now invariably said that she was right all along.
The night is yet young. So, how are you marking this auspicious occasion? How should I? And why?

"So, how are you marking this auspicious occasion?"
ReplyDeleteI'm going to film myself having sex while swearing a lot.
Had I known it on the day, I would have watched "Life of Brian" on the DVD player.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from the ageing losers. One more push...
ReplyDeleteThe Life of Brian is a dazzlingly bad film, quite unworthy of the Pythons. Yet your entire generation seems to regard it as the last word on Jesus.
I have to agree with Mr. Lindsay on "The Life of Brian." I didn't think it was funny or clever. But it was popular among people at my college, where I was coaxed into watching it by a friend of mine. Honestly, I am not much of a Monthy Python fan in general. "The Holy Grail" is the only movie of theirs I really like.
ReplyDeleteBack on the topic of Mrs. Whitehouse, how much support did she really get from the Thatcher Government? I would think a free market-oriented government would be against using the State to clean up media content.
She received absolutely no practical support from the Thatcher Government. As another of this country's best-known pro-life and pro-family campaigners put it to me when I mentioned the Conservative Party, "I spent 18 years fighting against them."
