Super Sunday

Neil Clark writes:

In the Hungarian referendum, there has been a resounding victory for anti-government forces. With around 93% of votes cast, 84.46 have voted 'yes' to scrap hospital visit fees, 82.2% to scrap doctor's visit fees and 82.64% to scrap tuition fees. The result is a massive blow to the ruling MSZP/SDZSZ coalition neoliberal 'reform' programme, and makes the position of the hated, multi-millionaire Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany (above) untenable.

Meanwhile in France, Nicolas Sarkozy's ruling UMP party has suffered major losses in the local elections. And in Spain, exit polls indicate that the progressive, anti-war government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero will be relected.

If we add to these three positive events, yesterday's news from Serbia that Prime Minister Kostunica has finally told his fanatically pro-EU, pro-'reform' coalition partners to take a running jump - then it really has been a weekend to savour.

I know that people say that the other lot in Spain are more pro-Catholic, but that is not borne out at all by their record in office. They just another lot of economically and socially libertine neocon hawks trading (if they still bother) on the rather distant Christian past of the movement that they took over in classic Trotskyist fashion. Like the UMP, in fact.

Where are the Continent's parties like this? Presumably, as here, people think that they are already voting for such parties. But, as here, they simply are not.

  1. Is Neil Clark still BPA candidate in Wantage or has he stepped down?

  2. Well, he was extremely keen to sock it to Vaizey last time I discussed it with him.

I've just received some good news about the BPA, so watch this space...

  3. Is this the same good news you promised us in Januray, or early February at the latest?

  4. Interestingly, the Jon party also has some good news. When David tells us about the BPA, I will also tell you our news.

  5. Oh no, Sally, this is bigger than I'd ever expected. So it won't appear here for quite a while. Ah, the wonders of global telecommunication...

We've got two years until the General Election, anyway. And that'll be our proper debut. It certainly will be after today.

  6. You do know that Oliver Kamm is still engaged in his criminal harassment of you as well as Neil over on his blog, don't you?

  7. Oh yes, but since he started allowing comments it's become claer that no one actually reads him except his groupies. A lot of people assume that he writes most of the comments himself, and they might very well be right.

He does manage to be published occasionally, but only because he doesn't need to be paid. And his articles are invariably howled down by the readers.

  8. Will you be fighting every seat?

  9. That's the hope and intention, yes. Potential candidates, do please get in touch - davidaslindsay@hotmail.com

  10. so how many candidates do you now have? I'm a potential voter, not a wannabe candidate

  11. does that mean every seat under BPA colours, or merely 'approved' candidates in every seat?

  12. Brian, any figure that I give now will be meaningless in the near future. But do get in touch in order to keep in touch.

Jon, the former if at all possible, obviously. There are still a very, very few MPs whom we might endorse. But they are not necessarily certain to stand next time. And in any case, they might turn down any endorsement by another party on principle. It happens.

  13. Have you seen Kamm's latest bizarre offering over on CiF? Torn to pieces as ever. As you say they don't need to pay him. But they probably do anyway just because he provides so much entertainment.

  14. I know, it's like bear-baiting. Except that bears understand more of what is going on than Kamm does.

  15. You really are a stupid ridiculous arrogant man, you really are.

A cyber cultural Nazi-Facist over the lowest order.

  16. Readers are invited to submit other uses of the term (which is new on me) "over the lowest order".

Incidentally, bdj submits a comment to this blog pretty much every day, and quite often several times per day. So I thought that I'd let through one of his more intelligent and articulate efforts. There are so very, very few of them.
