It Is Better To Die Than To Live A Coward

So translates the motto of the Brigade of Gurkhas. Well, I'm not sure that cowardice is exactly the vice being displayed by Labour and the Tories in relation to the Gurkhas, a cause which they have, with staggering ineptitude, ceded to the Lib Dems, of all people. But something certainly is.

Not only should old Gurkhas have an absolute right to live and be naturalised in the United Kingdom, but (an even more pressing need) serving and former Gurkhas' children should be charged only home student fees by universities here. When is that going to happen? Why hasn't it happened already?

  1. The French grant automatic citizenship to all those who serve in the Foreign Legion and honourably discharged as a matter of course for years.

Hence its popularity after the collapse of the Iron Curtain amongst men from Eastern Europe. Particularly Hungarians and Romanians.

This carries out into execution one of the legion mottos:

"He became a son of France not by blood received but by blood spilt"
