This blog will not be joining in this week’s chorus of extravagant praise for Ian Paisley. For 35 years, he said no to exactly the deal to which, once it became in his own personal and partisan interest, he said yes in his old age.
And it isn’t even a very good deal. Sooner or later (and my money is on sooner), the people of Northern Ireland will be confronted with the fact that, if all their parties are in government all the time, then none of them is asking any questions. But what will they be able to do?
