David Cameron to promise Wisconsin-style welfare reform? Believe in it when you see it, and not before. Anyway, would anyone even notice? And since psephologically he cannot win, who cares?
The Tories only won the 1992 Election because large numbers of people feared that Neil Kinnock would make them get jobs, and turned out to vote Tory (when they would otherwise have stayed at home) in order to prevent any such thing from happening. They have mostly stayed at home since. But they wouldn't if Cameron made a similar threat to Kinnock's. And they live right where he needs to win seats (but can't and won't).
At present, he is looking at a fairly honourable defeat which can be blamed on the facing a massacre, with scores of second places becoming thirds and (in Scotland and Wales) fourths.
