And why not? Almost nobody is ever so much as charged with the extremely common offence of perjury, and to receive a prison sentence of the length meted out to Aitken would ordinarily require one to have perjured oneself in the course of a criminal trial for murder or drug-trafficking, not in the course of a civil action for libel.
