Donald Trump wants a United Ireland, as any President of the United States must, so he obviously labours under no illusion that the Republic really was neutral, as no President of the United States could. Since the only British member of Trump's so-called Board of Peace is Tony Blair of the Good Friday Agreement, then what says he?
Jonathan Powell has been to Ukraine to tell us, from there, to endure "real hardship" this winter in the cause of "keeping up the pressure" on the Russia that has since appeared to have droned him. Like you, the droning of Powell and of Boris Johnson leaves me dry-eyed. Keir Starmer is preparing a Resignation Honours List after all, so Powell may have ermine to keep him warm. Too bad for the rest of us.
Johnson's name is on some round-robin denying the Gaza genocide. Whoever circulated that was clearly as tin-eared about propriety or moral authority as they were hypocritical about the usual right-wing demand that "luvvies" know their place, since yet again we are expected to defer to the geopolitical expertise of Maureen Lipman and such like. Boy George falls into both categories. There as anywhere else, Steven Pinker's name appears as the heir and successor of Jeffrey Epstein.
Israel has always supported Argentina over the Falkland Islands. In 1982, it expressed that support to the tune of one billion dollars of military assistance, and in those days, a billion dollars was a lot of money. Between 2 April and 14 June, Israel supplied fuel, air-to-air missiles, anti-personnel mines, anti-tank weapons, replacement parts for jets, and radar and communications equipment. Nesher fighter jets were used in the raid that destroyed RFA Sir Galahad, killing 56.
And in those days, Erich Priebke was only one of the Nazis and what might now be called the Nazi-adjacent who were still very much alive in Argentina, which was simultaneously conducting at home the Dirty War of which 10 to 12 per cent of the 30,000 or more victims were Jewish even though Jews were only one per cent of the population, making it to this day the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.
Trump has also just authorised the sale of Black Hawk helicopters to Argentina. File that alongside the fact that the Provisional IRA did not use the Soviet AK-47 that was ubiquitous in anti-imperialist struggles, but the ArmaLite AR-18 all the way from sunny California. NORAID publications positively bragged of being funded by the CIA. The Trump-loving Unionist politicians can do no better than Carla Lockhart's insistence that there would not be a United Ireland in the lifetime of an 80-year-old with a notoriously unhealthy lifestyle.
In the minds of the relevant voters, all votes for Reform UK or for Restore Britain have been or will be cast for Trump, and with him for Benjamin Netanyahu and the rest of an entourage that included Javier Milei. The same is now true of a very sizeable number of votes for the Conservative Party, as it has always been of every pair of feet that had ever marched or waddled behind Stephen Yaxley-Lennon or Daniel Thomas. Reform, in particular, is in terrible trouble, what with this and its having taken £72 million from the cryptocurrency industry while the dangers of Artificial Intelligence were being highlighted by Silicon Valley itself, with those dangers downplayed only by Trump.
Yet, as commonly understood, everyone from Blair rightwards now has to address the scandal of Anne Sacoolas and Harry Dunn; the scandal of Jacob Wulfson and Sarah Steele; the scandal of the extraction of an American diplomat by the United States Marine Security Guards from his private flat in Putney, of his transportation by military convoy to the misnamed RAF Fairford, and of his flight from there on a chartered Boeing 747 to a military base in Delaware, all to escape the attention of the Metropolitan Police in relation to his possession of child sexual abuse images; and the scandal of the IDF's killing of James Kirby, James Henderson and John Chapman while those British veterans were unarmed and delivering humanitarian aid, bombing them three times to make sure that they were dead, using British-made Elbit Hermes 450 drones, and using intelligence from the over 600 nightly reconnaissance missions flown for the Israelis, yet free of charge to them, from RAF Akrotiri. We were never the fifth column, the useful idiots, or the enemy within. But we have waited 25 years for this.
Yes, yes, yes, we have waited so long for this.
