Peter Hitchens now describes himself as having gone into internal exile. There is already a form of that, which he might consider next year. It is called Celebrity Big Brother, and people still have a go at George Galloway, who is now in external exile, for having appeared on it for charity, yet they say nothing about the far more recent participation in I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here! by Nadine Dorries, who was also a sitting MP at the time, and by Nigel Farage. That was all the way over in Australia, and for very fat fees.
I am a Groucho Marxist, I would not join any party that would have me as a member. But there is a party for which I have voted and will vote at every opportunity. Its Leader may be out of the country, but he will not be at Davos. Nor would he ever be either so naive or so venal as to record a tribute to Ian Watkins. And nor does he run any risk of being overthrown either by Robert Jenrick or by Wes Streeting.
