On what basis does Keir Starmer imagine that he might be able to bully Durham Police? Its area covers two unitary authorities, neither of which the Labour Party any longer controls or even leads.
In each of them at the last General Election, more people voted Conservative than voted Labour, resulting in three Labour MPs and four Conservatives. We have considerable inequality of wealth, but none of our wards could be mistaken for the richest in the world. This is not the Labour heartland of Mayfair.
Everyone should see Durham Miners' Hall, outside and in, but Starmer's visit to it was probably the only time that he had ever visited the area covered by Durham Police. Between that and the Radisson Blu, which will have been just like Labour London, he will have gone away with a most incomplete impression of the place.
Way back in the days of cash for peerages, and imagine that, Tony Blair threatened to resign if he were interviewed under caution. But Starmer is not the Prime Minister. "I'll resign as Leader of the Opposition"? Who cares? Resign to your heart's content as secretary of the golf club, but do not expect anyone to give a stuff.
If Starmer cannot cope with any and everything that might be thrown at him, day in and day out, by the Daily Mail, then he is clearly unsuited to be Leader of the Labour Party. Unlike his predecessor.
This is how to do it.
