The first time that I heard Shirley Williams speak, then her husband slept through the whole thing. He was snoring, and everything.
Yet this was a person whose mere return to these shores following a Fulbright Scholarship, in order to seek a Labour nomination while still in her early twenties, was reported as news, complete with her picture in the papers.
She would have fitted right back into the Labour Party these days. They are all like that again now.
