Flag Daze

Here along the Red Wall, as in the South, you will see Saint George's Flag in relation to international football matches, and increasingly also in relation to other sporting fixtures. That practice dates only from the 1990s, but it is quite entrenched now.

The Union Flag, however, you will see only on Remembrance Sunday, again as in the South. Although it is apparently to be flown from public buildings every day in the near future. That is going to look very, very odd. It is not, however, going to affect how anyone voted.

A bus has been hijacked and set on fire on the Shankill Road this evening. Those are the only people outside the Armed Forces who wave the Union Flag under almost any circumstance. By the end of this summer, they will have been waving it while shooting at the Armed Forces, as they have done in the past. Oh, and they never cheer for England at anything. Ever.
