This morning at the Cenotaph, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom laid his wreath upisde down. Keep saying that until it has quite sunk in.
Meanwhile, there must have been some kind of raffle or lottery to pick a member of the general public to lay a wreath in Lanchester this morning. Congratulations to the winner, a currently unemployed 32-year-old called Laura Pidcock.
But do not despair. Now 88, the legendary Davey Ayre of the 1972 construction workers' strike has signed my nomination papers. In the hallowed Durham Miners' Hall, no less: The Pitmen's Parliament. I am honoured beyond words.
