I am laughing myself silly.

The people who were for 40 years treated as the backbone of Britain, to the point where they alone were considered at all, understandably voted to keep things as they were by voting Remain. It was the people who had been dispossessed by the same process who voted Leave, and Leave won.

The Conservatives have conceded their prosperous, Thatcherite, Remain-voting seats to the SNP in Scotland, and very largely to the Liberal Democrats in the South of England. So pretty much in order to survive at all, they now have to appeal, in the only way that there is, to working age benefit claimants instead.
