Coming out of a funeral, a former Deputy Leader of Durham County Council said to me, "I bet you're glad you're not down there."
Did he mean it?
Well, he has been known to introduce me at funerals as, "The man who should have been our MP."
It is not clear that he has ever even met the present MP for this seat.
