Gove Over

Last night, BBC Two broadcast Expenses: The Scandal That Changed Britain, presented by Emily Maitlis. Briefly shown was the man of whom some are now talking as a potential Prime Minister, Michael Gove.

Gove claimed seven thousand pounds for furnishing a London property before "flipping" his designated second home to a house in his constituency. For that, he proceeded to claim around £13,000 to cover stamp duty.

He also claimed for a cot mattress, despite claims for children's items being banned. By repaying that, he admitted the transgression, since no one could conceivably imagine that a cot mattress was anything other than a child's item.

The partisan and class conscious Crown Prosecution Service prosecuted only Labour MPs, and in any it case would never have gone after so staunch a supporter of the Israeli Government as Michael Gove. But he is morally unfit to be Prime Minister, and the enthusiastic support of Toby Young serves only to underline that point. Yet such a Premiership is being talked about in all seriousness.

Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post. I will stand for this seat, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
