An Election By Extension

It will be a very difficult thing for other Prime Ministers, and holders of broadly equivalent offices, to order a Prime Minister to hold a General Election in her country. They would not like that in the other direction, and they know it. But they might very well do it this time.

Theresa May's deal has been defeated twice. There would be no point to extending Article 50 only for it to be defeated a third time. They might very well insist on a new House of Commons. Today, even Owen Paterson said that staying in the EU would be better than accepting this deal.

Whenever the next General Election comes, then it will bring another hung Parliament, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post. I will stand for this seat, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
