Thomson's Beano

My, but the SNP are a colourful lot.

As part of the legislation for yet further Scottish devolution, rather than (or even alongside) any meaningless provision for the Speaker to rule on a case-by-case basis that this or that was "England-only", a ruling that would never be made in actual fact, there needs to a clause of very practical effect indeed.

In view of Holyrood's increased powers, parties should be permitted to contest elections to it, or to the Scottish seats in the House of Commons, but not both. The SNP could have it. UKIP, the Greens, small factions on the Left, and possibly a few others, would provide an Opposition.

Meanwhile, Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats, none of whom has any remaining emotional investment in Holyrood, and without this measure all of whom would have practically no emotional investment in Scotland at all, would experience a significant Scottish renaissance, thereby causing the concerns of Scotland to be heard once again at Westminster.

If it is not to be this, then it will continue to be Michelle Thomson.
