Unfettered?

"Our obsolete class system was finally being overthrown by unfettered talent," Peter Hitchens? Not the usual impression of the 1950s, it must be said.

Oh, well, as Hitchens makes clear, "no major party" advocates the restoration of that era's education system. In so phrasing the matter, he dismisses any suggestion that UKIP might be a major party.

On the contrary, UKIP is not even allowed in the campaign for withdrawal from the EU at the referendum.

It has had to set up its own, with which its only MP will have nothing to do, preferring, as he does, the real one.

  1. If I had been given Hitchens' license by the liberal establishment, I wouldn't waste my column on something that was never going to happen.

    1. Quite.

A town 10 miles from the nearest grammar school, but nevertheless in a grammar school area, wishing to build an "annex" to that school for the pupils whom it was already sending there.

That is a complete one-off. There will not be another case of that anywhere in the country.
