Political prisoner, activist, journalist, hymn-writer, emerging thinktanker, aspiring novelist, "tribal elder", 2019 parliamentary candidate for North West Durham, Shadow Leader of the Opposition, "Speedboat", "The Cockroach", eagerly awaiting the second (or possibly third) attempt to murder me.
And away from Grauniad paranoia and back in the real world...?
ReplyDeleteOh no, these are both very real, and very interesting, possibilities. Especially since the next election is not exactly going to be terribly thrilling overall, so little things like this will receive quite a bit of attention.
ReplyDelete"the next election is not exactly going to be terribly thrilling overall"
ReplyDeleteReally? Surely the big story will be dramatic gains by the British People's Alliance, building on their success in the 2009 European Parliament elections? Sounds pretty thrilling to me...
NW Durham is going to be thrilling. You can take it, you know. What are you waiting for?
ReplyDeleteOur people in June not only stand a good chance of getting elected in several cases (the North-West, full of Catholics, has nine seats to fill; London, with so many people in the black churches that it is in fact more observant than the country as a whole, also has nine; and so forth), but also provide the opportunity to identify 50 seats in each of which we would, after all, only require the single highest number of votes cast in 2010, when overall turnout will be through the floor.
ReplyDeleteIf we didn't win 25 of them, then we simply wouldn't be trying. But we will be trying. Very, very, very hard. I repeat that we only have to get the single highest number of votes cast, with overall turnout through the floor.
As for here in North-West Durham, watch this space. Just as well that I fell ill in the early summer, and will be much more active again when things heat back up in the autumn...
Hilary retiring, probable all-women shortlist, certain imposition of some New Labour clone who makes me look like a pensioner and has never set eyes on the place, general disaffection, predominantly Catholic principal town...
"Pro-life, pro-family, pro-worker, anti-war"? "Economically social democratic, morally and socially conservative British and Commonwealth patriots"? "One Nation politics, with an equal emphasis on the One and on the Nation"? "Far too conservative to be capitalist, far too left-wing to be liberal"? It could be a description of this seat. In my subconscious (if there really is such a thing), it no doubt was, and is.
So, as I say, watch this space.
