No, of course not.
But this wretched "missile defence shield" negates, as it is designed to negate, Russia's ability to defend herself, but making her dependent on NATO, and thus effectively on the United States, if she ever has cause to do so.
Since 1991, NATO has really only existed in order to annoy the Russians. But Georgia and the Ukraine will never now be allowed into it (nor will Georgia ever be admitted to the EU, as egged on by the always pro-EU Americans, but despite having no border with any EU country).
In other words, a body which has no real purpose except to irritate and blackmail Russia now finds that Russia has an absolute veto on admissions to that very body.
You have to laugh.

The EU, I'm sorry to say, will grow and grow for as long as there are countries desperate enough to join it. That, in fact, is the main purpose of NATO, just as it always has been - to keep the Americans in and the Germans down, in order to maintain the European Union in the leftwing pacifist anti-war style to which it has become accustomed. (Why should Europeans want to spend more money on bullets than or abortions, especially when the Americans will do it for them?)

ReplyDeleteYou could have fooled me!
Britain, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, and all the old Eastern Bloc lot show precious little either "pacifist" (which I am not) or "anti-war" (not the same thing) inclinations, to put it at its very mildest.
