"Leftist Dogma"?

Is that really what is wrong with education?

Of course, it depends what you mean by "Leftist" and it depends what you mean by "dogma".

But never forget that it was Tony Crosland who wanted to close "every f*cking grammar school in the country", Margaret Thatcher who as Education Secretary actually did close so many that there were not enough left at the end for her record ever to be equalled (as Energy Secretary, Tony Benn did the same thing to coal mines), she who introduced the National Curriculum (but not for private schools) and who replaced O-levels with GCSEs (but not necessarily in private schools), and she and John Major who never re-opened a single grammar school. The Tories recently voted in favour of a Government Bill to ban the creation of any more.

"Leftist dogma"? More like well-to-do parents of dimwitted offspring rigging the system in order to keep down the brighter children of the poor and the genuinely middle-class.

  1. A lot of "leftism" is indeed those members of the middle & upper classes on the way down using concern for "the poor" & government power to slow the change. The Green movement is virtually nothing but.

Leftist well-to-do parents of dimwitted offspring? Definitely!

Leftist well-to-do parents of dimwitted offspring who voted for Tony Blair? Check, check, check!

Leftist well-to-do parents of dimwitted offspring who will probably vote for David Cameron? Almost certainly!
