De Retour

Yes, this is Elvet Bridge in Durham. Ignored in Britain, of course, but front page news abroad. "The working class is back" is a quotation from Saturday's landmark speech by Mick Lynch.

More rail strikes are coming. The RMT is not affiliated to the Labour Party. But like the CWU and many others whose industrial action is imminent, ASLEF is.

He can appear in Gateshead or anywhere else before tiny, invited audiences of those mostly or all on the clock. But this summer, Ab Starmer's fence-sitting, which is in fact choosing the stronger and thus the other side, is going to shaft him.

Moreover, since each group of strikers is eventually going to get something, then the intransigence of Starmer and his hangers on is going to look absolutely ridiculous compared to the conciliatory approach of the Conservative Government.

On Saturday, I was not the only trade unionist who thought that.

  1. That Gateshead audience of party staff, MPs' staff and all that was the funniest thing.

    1. But never try and tell them that. Never, ever, ever laugh at them.
