I do not necessarily approve of everyone's tactics. But Black Lives Matter have at least heard of those whose monuments they are attacking. Indeed, they know a very great deal about them.
As much as anything else, they know that the views and actions in question were highly controversial at the time. There is no "wrong end of the telescope" argument. The notion that this was just the way that things were in those days is one of the most pernicious examples of the erasure of the history of the organised working class.
By contrast, Save Are Statu's are mind-bogglingly described on the radio as wearing "military-style hats", and they choose to identify specifically as "football supporters" for this occasion. They either know only the most superficial things about Churchill, or they have simply never heard of any of the others.
It can be difficult to see the direct threat from a small number of the illiterate and obese elderly. But they do collect hangers on. And it only takes one. For example, only what passes for the Far Right in Britain, no Rivarol readers they, has killed a sitting MP in the last 30 years.
