Downgraded from severe to substantial in Great Britain, you say? It is all part of the game. These things are always riddled with informants, double agents, and the rest.
They never do anything big, at least, except as part of a wider strategy that has at least been condoned, if not directly determined and controlled, by the spooks. Watch out for a major terrorist incident as the polls tighten towards polling day. They did that last time.
That the official "terrorist threat" remains higher in Northern Ireland is presumably because the UUP has been terrorised out of contesting the North Belfast by the Loyalist paramilitary organisations, so as to give a clear run to the DUP on which the Government of the United Kingdom has been dependent for the last two years. The Loyalist paramilitary organisation, which at least above goon level simply are the spooks.
Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. After nearly 30 years of suggestion, speculation, and even a sort of preparation, I am standing for Parliament here at North West Durham.
