The Yellow Rose Again

Well, there you have it. Until further notice, the Lib Dems will abstain on any confidence motion while Jeremy Corbyn is the Leader of the Labour Party.

Since he is going to be the Leader of the Labour Party at least until the next General Election, then that is enough abstentions to keep the Conservatives in Government until 2022.

Provided that they do what the Lib Dems want. Corbyn or no Corbyn, they can always change their minds.

For all practical purposes, the Coalition has already been reconstituted. Cancelling Brexit, even if only by endless delays, is the first item in the Coalition Agreement, though certainly not the last.

The odds shorten by the hour on Ken Clarke as Prime Minister, at the insistence of the Lib Dems. Clarke is not in favour of a second referendum. Like most Conservative MPs really, he is just in favour of cancelling Brexit altogether, merely by saying so.

But normal people, by definition, do not care all that much about Brexit. They are too busy trying to keep body and soul together in a country where four out of 10 adults do not even earn enough to hit the income tax threshold.

Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. A new party is now in the process of registration.

I will stand for Parliament here at North West Durham even if I can raise only the deposit, which I could do by going pretty overdrawn, although that was not how I was brought up. Buy the book here.

I would still prefer to raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign, but I am no longer making my candidacy conditional on having done so. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
