Like the Viet Cong and the "Taliban", Theresa May understands that the other side will eventually grow bored, realise that it cannot remember why it had started the fight in the first place, and go home.
Thus did the Viet Cong win. Thus have the "Taliban" won; it is all over bar the paperwork. And thus might Theresa May yet win. If not this week, then next week.
Meanwhile, notice that if its own preferred version of Brexit were on a ballot paper against Remain, then Labour would advocate the former rather than the latter.
A hypothetical situation, of course. But a sign that, underneath it all, Jeremy Corbyn is still Jeremy Corbyn. Too bad for much of his party, especially in Parliament.
Another hung Parliament is coming, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it.
It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post.
I will stand for this seat, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
