One Out, All Out?

I may not think much of the cause. 16 years ago, people who were then the same age made a far more valiant stand against the Iraq War, the youth being always the vanguard against wars.

But "Why didn't they go on strike in the holidays?" has me laughing until I am almost delirious. And in any case, the legal definition of acceptable school attendance is 95 per cent.

You can take every other Friday off, or every Friday afternoon, and be entirely within the law. So they were arguably not on strike at all.

Every other Friday, or every Friday afternoon? Read a book. Write a book. Get an education.

Then again, schools close at three o'clock, they are closed at the weekends, and they are closed for three months of the year. So there is plenty of time to get an education.

But that certainly would not be a strike. It has come to something when we have to say this, but you cannot go on strike when you are on holiday.
