Anna Soubry voted to cut Police numbers by 23,000 since 2010, with the result that violent crime, to which she was not subjected yesterday, is at record levels. Yet now she demands Police protection.
In my experience, you are not really a political activist at all in Britain until you have been called a Nazi by at least four different types of opponent. Sajid Javid called Momentum "fascists" on the floor of the House of Commons. The likes of Margaret Hodge have screamed abuse at Jeremy Corbyn and are positively proud of the fact. There has of course been at least one foiled plot to assassinate him. The abuse of Diane Abbott, and now also of Kate Osamor, has become proverbial.
In 2014, George Galloway, who was then a sitting MP, was badly injured and was hospitalised in a street attack by a man wearing an Israeli Defense Force outfit. Mainstream political and media comment, such as there was, invariably began by defending the assailant. But there was very little reference to this incident, which was the attempted murder of a member of the House of Commons.
Been there, done that. I am no longer prepared to go into the details, but many years ago, the office of a senior member of the Blair Government saw to it that I had hands around my throat in an absolutely serious attempt to kill me for my political activism.

Indeed, I remain subject to an active death threat on the part of supporters of the present Israeli and Indian Governments. Those supporters are apparently based in the United States, but they are intimately connected to the ongoing, if farcical, attempt to use the criminal justice system to silence me politically. How is that working out for you?
Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post. I will stand for this seat, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
