Russian Resolutions

I knew that those EU sanctions over Salisbury and Douma reminded me of something. They are the stuff of public school debating societies such as the Parliamentary Labour Party and the Liberal Democrat Conference.

Such a body routinely imagines that simply because it has passed a resolution saying this or that, then this or that has happened, or very soon will. Today's Russia-baiters are exactly as serious as that.

They are the people who let Alexander Litvinenko into this country, even though he might as well have had the word "dodgy" tattooed across his forehead. Very much like Paul Whelan, in fact.

Whelan holds four nationalities, two of which he acquired voluntarily as an adult. He was drummed out of the United States Marine Corps for trying to steal thousands of dollars while he was deployed to Iraq.

Yet someone let him into Russia, and allowed him to build up quite a presence there. And now essentially the same people, but in British or American garb, the people who admitted Litvinenko to our shores, are trying to turn him into some kind of martyr or hero. They are having some success.

Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. I will stand for this seat of North West Durham, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
