Off The Table, At The Table

The Chancellor of the Exchequer has publicly refused to rule out resigning in the event of a No Deal Brexit. Of course it is off the table.

The Supreme Court would never rule that the United Kingdom automatically left the European Union on 29th March.

And if Article 50 were to be extended, then that would end in one of two ways.

Either it would remain "extended" forever, with occasional pretences at negotiation for the cameras. Or there would be a second referendum, between Theresa May's deal and Remain.

Two men and a dog would vote in that referendum. But one of those men would vote Remain. As so would the dog.

All eyes are now on the European Elections on 23rd May. Or, at any rate, they ought to be. Again, no one expects a high turnout. But the people who care, will vote. As ever, really.

Forget any talk of "Tommy Robinson" MEP or what have you. That lot is too splintered, even for the electoral system in use. The Lexit lot also needs to get its act together on that score.

No, keep an eye on the SDP. And not only for these Elections. It has already selected Patrick O'Flynn for Peterborough, where by far the best Labour candidate has decided not to stand.

Another hung Parliament is coming, and we need our people, who in some places might be in the SDP, to hold the balance of power in it.

I will stand for this seat of North West Durham, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
