Sadiq Khan took more than five times as many first preference votes as Zac Goldsmith did.
Yet Goldsmith still took 70 per cent of the Conservative primary vote. There really are that few members or signed up supporters of his party in London.
Yet he might very well win the Mayorality. I hope that he does not. But he very well might. And even Khan did not get all that many votes, despite their being more than five times as numerous as Goldsmith's.
The first London Mayoral Election was won by an Independent whose former party later had to waive its own rules in order to beg him to come back, or else he would have won for a second time without any party machine whatever.
Ponder these things.
