And so to the midterms. The elections that have really affected us this year have been taking place in Germany, but hey ho.
First, the endorsed candidates of Democrats for Life of America are Senator Bob Casey (Pennsylvania), Senator Joe Donnelly (Indiana), Senator Joe Manchin (West Virginia), Representative Dan Lipinski (Illinois's 3rd Congressional District), Representative Collin Peterson (Minnesota's 7th Congressional District), Dawn Barlow (Tennessee's 6th Congressional District), and Tim Bjorkman (South Dakota's At Large Congressional District).
Secondly, Jimmy Duncan is retiring, but Walter Jones is seeking to hold on in North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District, and this time without a Democratic opponent.
Thirdly, Senator Bernie Sanders is up for reelection this time in Vermont, and Representative Tulsi Gabbard is again contesting Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District. Sanders has also endorsed Senator Tammy Baldwin in Wisconsin, Jacky Rosen in Nevada, Randy Bryce in Wisconsin's 1st District, Ammar Campa-Najjar in California's 50th District, Jesús G. "Chuy" García in Illinois's 4th District, Representative Barbara Lee in California's 13th District, Mike Levin in California's 49th District, Jessica King in Pennsylvania's 11th District, Joe Neguse in Colorado's 2nd District, Sanjay Patel in Florida's 8th District, J.D. Scholten in Iowa's 4th District, Liz Watson in Indiana's 9th District, and Representative Peter Welch in Vermont's At Large District.
And fourthly, while voting for Bjorkman would mean not voting for Ron Wieczorek, the 9th Congressional District of Texas, with no Republican candidate, does feature Kesha Rogers, a good showing for whom would be just the shock that was needed by Al Green, a man who embodies everything that is now wrong with the Democratic Party, and that is quite a feat.
For while the Democrats might do well this time, they do not deserve to. On any one or more of torture, Guantánamo Bay, mass surveillance, workers' rights, consumer protection, environmental responsibility, treaties with Native Americans, healthcare for people with pre-existing conditions, the President's supposed immunity from indictment, and the President's supposed power to pardon himself, Brett Kavanaugh could easily have been blocked by enough Republicans and all Democrats, plus Bernie Sanders and Angus King.
But instead, the useless Democratic Party made it about a #MeToo and #IBelieveHer story that it was impossible to prove, so Kavanaugh was confirmed, even complete with the vote of one Democrat. I hope that that party is exactly as proud as it ought to be of this significant addition to its long history of uselessness and worse on the issues of torture, Guantánamo Bay, mass surveillance, workers' rights, consumer protection, environmental responsibility, treaties with Native Americans, healthcare for people with pre-existing conditions, and checks on Presidential power.
