Not All In Agreement

Those of us who regard Theresa May's Brexit deal as catastrophic need to face the fact that both it and she are quite popular.

The House of Commons will vote it down, because all non-Conservative MPs will vote against it, and those are the majority.

But the entire Cabinet and most Conservative MPs will vote in favour of it. Backed by the CBI, the Daily Mail, one may therefore assume the clear majority of the Conservative Party in the country, and certainly a broad swath of the electorate at large.

All Conservative MPs and the DUP will then vote against a Motion of No Confidence, meaning that the Government would survive, and that the Prime Minister would survive. Backed by the CBI, the Daily Mail, one may therefore assume the clear majority of the Conservative Party in the country, and certainly a broad swath of the electorate at large.

We are right. But that does not mean that everyone agrees with us.
