Chinese Whispers

Yes, the Chinese Government is vicious. That has nothing to do with the fact that we simply need to be on the Belt and Road, because it is not going to go away if we aren't, but we might.

And if China does not interfere in the political systems of client tyrannies, then it will not interfere in the political systems of client democracies, either. It is not on an ideological mission.

Whereas the student protesters in China, repressed though they are, are unreconstructed Maoists, and therefore very much on an ideological mission.

Meanwhile, the Uighur rebels, oppressed though they are, are motivated by the missionary ideology that sets off bombs on our own streets.

From Syria to Xinjiang, we lionise those whom we would rightly arrest if they turned up in London, Birmingham or Bradford.
